Entry for April 1, 2008 Water Storage Before A Disaster Strikes
A question that we are asked a lot is , how is the best way to store water? A container to to use needs to be of food grade quality, such as 2-liter soda bottles, with tight fitting screw on lids. It is recommended that you do not use milk containers because they do not seal well. Some people feel it is necessary to add bleach to the water to increase storage life, this is not so. If your local water is treated commercially by a water treatment utility, it is not necessary to do so. But if your water comes from a well or other non-treated system use a small amount of bleach. It is however important to change and replace stored water at least every six months in both cases. In past blogs I have suggested to keep a steady flow of bottled water in and out of your home, work and vehicles. Doing this works well in many households. Most commercially prepared bottled water is good for a year. We also carry a water treatment reusable bottle that will treat up to 700 gallons and filter out over 99.99% of bacteria and contaminates. Check that out in our store under food and water. Also we have the AquaBlox water boxes that are good for 5 years. Finally in our store we have water purification tablets they are 8.5mg of sodium dichlorolsocyanurate, they are easy to put in your survival kit. I hope this information gives you some insight on water preporation before a disaster strikes. Take care and be safe until next time. 2008-04-02 03:56:30 GMT
